William H. Seward Yacht Club
WHSYC Members and Friends,
Thank you to everyone
for another successful year of sailing, racing and friendship at the
William H. Seward Yacht Club. Let's keep the momentum going!
The season is closing
and we need your input! The next board meeting will be held this
Wednesday, October 21, at the Jack White conference room at 6 pm. The
address is 3801 Centerpoint Drive. We will discuss the winter
schedule, Christmas party and annual meeting, board elections, the
clubhouse lease, social media--the whole enchilada. Our meetings are
always open so, don't be shy, come and join us!
Thanks to all of you
for your continued support of the WHSYC. I am proud of what we
accomplished this season, especially renewing the clubhouse lease,
stabilizing the budget and revising the membership structure. And on
top of all that, we still had a fun and exciting racing/cruising
season to share with one another and the Alaska Sailing Club!
We ran two board teams
this season: back of the house, front of the house--thank you to our
board members and volunteers for making it happen.
- Deb Perala: here's to all our early morning budget
meetings and key drops in the UAA parking lot before work.
Marty: for your previous work in tackling the AKRR issues.
- Gary Fung: a giant toast for working with Tougas on
the lease terms and for exploring other rental and remodel
options in Seward--all the way from SF! Thanks also for your
racing expertise and workshop participation.
- Sam Steele: for your huge support, those peppy
newsletters and running the show in Seward. And for getting
- Marcy Baker: event calendar, logisitics and
Rumdoodle-you rocked it!
- Beautiful Bill and Conni Baby: for long distance
website and content management, technical assistance, workshops,
common sense and friendship.
- Mike and Deb LaMagdeleine: for a great finished
product with the membership roster.
- Mark and Laurence: for jumping in and helping with
just about everything (racing, workshops, board needs,
- Joe: for loving this club, stepping up to the plate
every time and finally getting out of here.
- To Rick Smeriglio (good Lord, I hope I spelled it
right): for keeping a watchful eye on the clubhouse. We could
not do it without you.
- To Dave and Sally: For doing it. And doing it well.
- And to S/V Sherpa, Williwaw and Balthazar: for
heading out, coming home and passing through.
With that said, there
is still work to do. We are still in a season-to-season lease scenario
regarding the clubhouse and we are constantly on the look out for a
realistic, alternative club space in Seward. Sam and I reached out to
Tom Tougas and Major Marine last week to get the conversation started
Again, great job
everyone! Please join us this Wednesday if you're free.
